Rethinking a Section of dei Fori Imperiali
Charette, Roma Tre, Rome Italy October 2010
The project imagines how Urban Artefacts could be approached in the future by new forms of architecture and urban life as positions on preservation are reconsidered by society.
The installation proposes a mesh of steel elements, rethinking the typology of the scaffold as architectural ornament. The veil will structure new circulation, frame internal spaces, and provide sporadic articulation as a screen for the Basilica. It will have an urban identity that is entirely seperate to that of the Basilica.
Rather than stucturally anchoring into the Basilica directly, the veil is hung from a steel frame that is offset from the building.
The images are produced to communicate what this new type of urban space could feel like. In reality, the materiality and nature of the veil will be far more open, temporal and invisible.
